This is the difference between the Bronco’s base tire to its largest stock size.

The biggest tire is 163% bigger (by volume) than the smallest one. I can’t think of a bigger tire disparity in the options list.

With digital instrument clusters you should be able to input your tire size and it just gets the speed right. How is that not a thing? or is it and I just don’t know

New Wranglers have it, but you either have to go to the dealer and have them do it or buy an aftermarket thing (~$150).

Really I’m not sure there’s any excuse for modern cars not to have a menu option somewhere to change that (except that the car can probably figure it out on its own with no human intervention using either accelerometers or GPS)

It is. Speedometer calibration on any modern car is a canbus programming change away.

Ferds let you change the settings for tire size, so long as it was a size that originally came on the car.  So a base F150 can be accurate with the 35's from the Raptor

It almost seems as if Ford is trying to pre-empt the aftermarket by offering as many possible options  and configurations on the Bronco right out the gate. Part of the appeal of the Wrangler is how large the aftermarket is and how customizable they are, and it would otherwise take years for the Bronco to be able to compete with that.

I think the volume difference is less meaningful than the circumference/diameter.

I’ll be swapping out the rear axle in Crappy Vic, switching from 3.73 to 3.55 and LSD. My pal with the full service shop has a Vulcan Mind Meld device that can talk to my ECM and he thinks changing the rear end ratio shouldn’t be a problem. I’d expect the same with the Bronco, but it’s just a guess.

Have you made a seat decision yet?

I mean, 35s are pretty big but people are just going to stick 37s and 40s on them. Having a bigger tire than the next guy is what drives 80% of the Jeep aftermarket. Ford could have gone straight to 40s and people would want 44s.

It’s all just a ploy to keep resale values up.....say s 35,000 on the odometer but it’s really done 40,000.

i mean, thats EXACTLY what they are doing.  Jeep folk spend thousands on average in the aftermarket and Jeep finally figured out they want some of that.  Ford too.

the volume is to illustrate 3d dimensions differences. Circumference is what will matter for clearance only. The extra 60 mm tire width is sure going to have an impact as well.

It’ s also a way to quickly visualize mass. The 30 inch bridge stone weighs 32 lbs, for example. The Goodyear 35 is 67 lbs/tire.

Just moving from the base tire to the samsquantch tire takes 175 lbs off your payload rating...which isn’t huge to begin with.

Circumference and diameter will effect performance profoundly with strain on drive line components, gearing, fuel economy, towing, et cetera. But I’m not saying anything new, probably just looking at the effects through a different lens. And mass is an entirely different consideration from volume.

Except for a spare, w hy should wheel weight take away from payload? Payload is all about the sprung mass. Mounted w heels and tires are not. I think the decrease to payload due to the wheel and tire combination should be the difference in weight of the spare.

I can see you are a fan of https://tiresize.com/comparison/ which is my favorite website for checking alternate tire sizes. not only will it gi ve you dia/width/rev differences, it also calculates speedometer error as shown above... AND it lets you see what manufacturer and brand is potentially available in the new size, which keeps you from picking a size that works dimension ally but isn’t available in a tire brand/style you want. They also have a bolt pattern index and a backspace calculator if you dare.
